Many black women have gone from having permed hair to an all natural approach, which is a healthy option for your hair. However, many of us women would prefer to have healthy relaxed hair. Is there such a thing as having “healthy” hair if it is chemically treated?

I am here to say the answer to that question is YES! But, I must say it requires work. Healthy relaxed hair means that you follow many proven processes. For the sake of this article, we are going to discuss three important things you can do starting today.

A Crash Course In Healthy Relaxed Hair

Is relaxed hair healthy

Eating Healthy Foods

Eating healthy foods are effective in not only nourishing your body, mind and soul, but it nourishes your hair as well. One of the easiest things you can do for healthy relaxed hair is to eat a lot of fruits because they contain loads of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that promote hair growth.

Consume essential vitamins like Vitamin A, B, C and E. The Times of India wrote an article entitled, “21 foods for healthy hair,” which gives you loads of ideas on what specific foods to eat.

Reduce Your Stress Level

Stress is a major cause of hair loss and a real killjoy for healthy relaxed hair. To be clear, only physiological stress will cause you to lose your hair. What are some of those things? Physiological stress can be brought on by a poor diet, medical issues, or major lifestyle changes.

Carolyn Jacob, MD, founder and medical director of Chicago Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology said, “A normal head of hair contains about 120,000-150,000 strands of hair. Usually, at any one time, about 90% of those hairs are in a growing phase, growing by about 1/2 inch each month.

This phase lasts for two to three years. At that point, a hair will go into a resting stage. This “rest” lasts for 3 to 4 months before the hair falls out and is replaced by a new one.”

It is imperative that you learn how to reduce your stress level. This will help to stop your hair loss. In addition, there are several activities you can do, such as:

  • Yoga classes
  • Meditation classes
  • Listening to music

Use Hair Growth Shampoo

Hair growth products contain essential nutrients for your hair, which is great for healthy relaxed hair. By using organic shampoo it not only helps to stimulate hair growth, but this type of shampoo doesn’t contain hazardous chemicals that could damage your hair follicles.

One shampoo treatment that I like is Keranique’s Hair Regrowth Shampoo (they also have a conditioner). Keranique is not only designed to prevent hair-fall, but also to optimize the hair regrowth cycle, with the end result being a head with fuller, more voluminous hair.

With these simple yet effective methods, you will certainly learn how to grow healthy relaxed hair. The main thing you need to take into account is that you must be consistent in taking care of your hair. If you do, you will experience beautiful hair every day.
