Best Semi-Permanent Hair Dye – Adore Hair Color

Hair color is the pigmentation of hair follicles. More specifically two types of melanin: Eumelanin and Pheomelanin. Normally, if more Eumelanin is available, the color of your hair is darker; if less Eumelanin is found, the hair is lighter. Degrees of melanin may differ with time causing your hair color to change. In addition, hair follicles can come in different hues on the same person.

Lets talk about some of those hair colors.

Black Hair

Black hair is the darkest hue. It has a lot of eumelanin. It can vary from brown-black, or jet-black.

Brown Hair

Brown hair is identified by higher amounts of eumelanin and lower amounts of pheomelanin. Of the two types of eumelanin (brown and black), brown-haired people have brown eumelanin; they also have medium-thick strands of hair. Brown-haired people are usually referred to as brunette.

Blonde Hair

Blonde hair varies from nearly white to dark golden blonde. Strawberry blond, a mixture of red and blonde hair is a rare type having many pheomelanin. Blond hair can have any amount of pheomelanin and eumelanin, but has trace amounts of the two.

More pheomelanin produces a more golden or strawberry blond color, and more eumelanin produces an ash or sandy blond color. Some children born with blond hair grow darker hair as they age. With the most of natural blonds growing a hair color of a dark gunmetal hue when they reach mid age.

Auburn Hair

Auburn hair varies along a series of light to dark red-brown hues. The substances, which lead to auburn hair are brown eumelanin and red pheomelanin. This color has a greater amount of red-causing pheomelanin than is present in average brown hair. It is commonly present in people of Western and Northern European descent.

Chestnut Hair

Chestnut hair has a shade, which is reddish color of brown hair. When compared with auburn hair, the reddish color of chestnut is very dark. Chestnut is common among the peoples of Western, Central, Northern, and Eastern Europe.

Red Hair

Red hair varies from light strawberry blond colors to titian, copper and not as usually true red. Red hair has the highest levels of pheomelanin around 67% with lower amounts of eumelanin. At 1-2% of the population, it is the least common hair shade on earth. It is most widely seen in Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland.

Gray & White Hair

Gray or white hair is sometimes referred to as “salt and pepper.” When it is peppered through dark hair, it is not due to a real gray or white color. Instead, it is caused by an absence of melanin and pigmentation. The clear hairs look white or gray due to the way light is reflected from the hairs. We all eventually get a nice shade of gray as we grow older whether we want it or not.

Gray Hair

For many, however, this can also happen at a young age. The same applies for children with white hair, a result of Albinism.

In some cases, gray hair can be a result of thyroid defects, Waardenburg syndrome or a vitamin B12 deficiency. At some stage in the human life cycle, cells that are found in the base of the hair’s follicles slow, and finally stop producing color.

Studies have shown that Caucasian people start to gray in their 20s and early 30s while Asian people start graying in their late 30s, but a majority of Black people maintain their original hair hue until their mid-40s. People with albinism can have white hair as a result of low levels of melanin.

Conditions Affecting Hair Color

Stress

According to Scientific American, “Legend has it that Marie Antoinette’s hair turned white the night before she was guillotined. Presumably the stress of impending decapitation caused her locks to lose color within hours. Extremely unlikely, scientists say, but stress may play a role in a more gradual graying process.”

So, it is true, stress both persistent and severe, may cause achromotrichia earlier in some people. Proponents indicate survivors of adversities, like Titanic survivor Harold Bride, or high-level politicians like Barack Obama and other precedents have prematurely grayed due to stress.

Medical Conditions

Albinism is a hereditary abnormality in which little pigment is present in human hair, skin and eyes. The hair is usually white or pale blond. However, it may be darker blond, red, light brown, or rarely, even dark brown. Malnutrition is proven to cause hair to become thinner, lighter, and more brittle. Dark hair can turn blondish or reddish because of the less production of melanin. The condition is reversible with a good diet. Werner syndrome and pernicious anemia may also cause early graying.

Adore hair color can enhance your overall appearance. This semi permanent dye is great. I’ve tried other semi permanent dyes, but I like this one because it leaves my hair super shiny and soft.
